Work on FHWAR has gone on for years in cooperation with Jerry Vaske. This web area is being expanded to give access to material that is not readily accessed. Also, commentary is being provided regarding the need for appropriate consideration of data structure. Links are provided to related material on data structure, particularly on diagramming data structure to improve research.

We started our work on restructuring the FHWAR data with the 1996 data. When the 2001 data became available, we went ahead demonstrating that:

 (1) the FHWAR data could be used by a greater SAS community and by SPSS users if appropriately structured; and

 (2) there were problems with the structure and content of the FHWAR data that show credibility problems beyond failure to produce estimates agreeing with benchmarks. You may want to look at Structuring Survey Data to

Facilitate Analysis where we pursue FHWAR data structure problems.

In fact, for example, why ask about license data and payments? Questions are not asked in a way to allow comparison with state data. Also, when some comparisons are possible, FHWAR does not agree with what amounts to census/population information (e.g., see An Invitation to Examine the FHWAR).
